A traditional Balinese Cuisine

Bebek Betutu, literally means duck cooked in banana leaf it it one of the most traditional Balinese cuisines which not only taste delicious but is usually prepared and presented to the almighty God, Ida Sang Hyang Widhi during temple ceremonies and religious rituals. The Balinese have great admiration towards the duck and considers it to be a strong animal, as it is one of the animals able to survive on land as well as water besides the turtle.

A mixture of local Balinese herbs, spicess and fragrant roots adds a rich flavor to the duck. A taste that reminds the visitors of their reason to visit Bali, to taste the rich spices from the east. The presentation of Bebek Betutu is unique and the cooking method is one of a kind in Bali. This is the main reason why the local Balinese chef are trying to maintain this traditional dish by introducing this local cuisine to the foreign visitors on this island. It is frequently on the menu at various restaurants hosting Balinese dishes. In some cases the chicken can be used in exchange for the duck. But the name is then "Ayam Betutu".
Ayam literally meaning chicken. As Bebek Betutu is generally reserved for festive occasions it is often acompanied by a wide variety of Balinese cuisines on the buffet table. Be it satay lilit (minced meat satay), lawar (tradional vegetables) etc. With the increasing popularity of the Asian cuisines around the world, the basic ingredients to make Bebek Betutu is now almost easy to obtain.
